2017 Fantasy Hockey Playoff Push: 8 Players To Target

By: Kras & JJ Bens

With most fantasy hockey leagues pushing towards the playoffs, it is time to look to the waiver wire to see who can help you win your league. Whether you need goals and assists or you are looking for shots and hits, there are guys who can help in multiple categories available in most leagues to help you make a deep run in the playoffs.

Here are 8 players to target for your playoff run:

1. Mikael Backlund – C – Flames (available in 52% of Yahoo! leagues, 35% of ESPN leagues): Backlund has reached the 20+ goal mark for the second straight season and could very well hit 30 goals before the season is over. He is turning in top 75 value and will help with goals and +\-. – Kras

2. Jaden Schwartz – C, LW – (46%, 46%): Schwartz has only found the net once over the last month but he has done everything else. Over that same period, Schwartz has 7 assists, 3 PP points, 33 SOG, and 10 hits. If he can start scoring goals he will be a steal going into the fantasy playoffs. – Kras

3. Connor Hellebuyck – G – Jets (52%, 65%): Connor has 22 wins on the season and 5 of them have been in the last month. In that month, he has a 3.13 GAA and a .901 save percentage. Connor seems to be playing better as of late and will be a nice addition for a team in need of a goalie. – Kras

4. Evander Kane – LW – Sabres (41%, 37%): Kane has turned it on as of late, piling up 7 goals and 4 assist with 2 PP points over the past month. To go along with the points, Kane has also been a source of hits and shots on goal. He is one of the Sabres best and most productive players this year. Scoop him up if you can. – Kras

5. Kyle Turris – C – Senators (62%, 37%): Turris has missed 3 games this month and has still managed to net 4 goals. Turris is worth an add if you are in need of a C. He is in the middle of one of his better seasons and should be able to reach the 50 point mark. – Kras

6. Jonathan Bernier – G – Ducks (62%, 73%): With John Gibson missing 8 out of the last 9 games, Bernier has flourished. He won 5 out of the last 7 games, allowing only 10 total goals. I would bet that the Ducks stick with the hot hand in Bernier until he falters. – JJ Benz

7. Antti Raanta – G – Rangers (40%, 54%): Raanta is widely considered one of the most talented backup goal tenders in the league. With Henrik Lundqvist out with a hip injury for the next month, look for Raanta to get most of the starts. – JJ Benz
8. Nick Schmaltz – C, LW – Blackhawks (90%, 84%): While Artem Anisimov is out for the next 3-4 weeks, Schmaltz will anchor a line with Patrick Kane and/or play alongside Jonathan Toews and Richard Panik. The rookie has been playing better as of late and will have an opportunity to produce on one of the Hawks top 2 lines. – JJ Benz
